Going au naturale?

20140116-205356.jpg

Anyone else suffer from major insomnia, I feel like I have been fighting it for years now and not winning many battles.

I’ve tried ambien (I am wiped out at first, but wake in the middle of the night), ambien xr (better, but my insurance won’t cover it and it is outrageous), abilify (slept great but was a zombie all the time), trazadone (didn’t make me sleepy), melatonin, magnesium, and most recently melatonin xr (I was optimistic at first, but haven’t slept well all week).

So, while I dream up some other things to try, I made a night cream of essential oils mixed with coconut oil. It smells lovely, and lots of essential oil users swear by it, so far it isn’t the miracle I have been looking for.

The squirt seems to be sleeping well since we have been using it though, so that is a plus!

If anyone has any suggestions, please share!!

Well I have all sorts of things to recommend, but it depends how heavy you want to get into psychotropics. I have tried nearly everything my psychiatrist could throw at me, and the one thing that has worked (knock on wood) for the longest is Zyprexa Zydis (also known as Olanzapine ODT). I take 5mg and it doesn’t knock me out right away and it doesn’t give me a hangover in the morning. It just lets me sleep. I swear by it, but it’s not for everyone. I hope you find something that works for you. Sleeping problems cause big real-life problems!

I eliminated my insomnia, anxiety, and hot flushes, all in one go and overnight (not kidding you) by taking sugar and caffeine out of my diet. Yes, I miss my cup of coffee or tea but I like sleep better.
