the prompt for today is “If you had to be trapped inside a movie for 5 days, which movie would you pick?”
i am kind of lazy about answering the prompts. but after reading the post over at not a punk rocker, i was inspired. she made an excellent point about whether the question was what movie you would want to watch for five days straight, or if it was asking what movie world you would want to live in for five days.
i jumped to the conclusion that it was the latter question, and the movie that immediately popped into my head was moulin rouge. i mean, who doesn’t dream of popping into a gorgeously costumed musical, in a burlesque club, during the bohemian revolution, in paris?!?!?
however, in the time it took me to assemble my lunch and sit down at my computer, i realized that while there are a few movies with worlds i would love to visit, my #1 movie choice for a 5 day vacation would have to be harry potter.
i am sure i am not the only one that dreams of shopping for magical school supplies in diagon alley, getting sorted into a house, and learning to do magic.
movies like harry potter (and starwars, and lots of other quest type movies) tap into my subconscious hope that somehow, somewhere deep inside, i am something more than mortal. that my destiny holds something greater than the mundane. that i can be a hero.
