i have been sewing my fingers to the bone trying to get the dolls completed…well, ok, not the bone, but i do have calluses on my finger tips!!
here is the fairy, perched in the garden! i had a lot of fun doing her hair! she has a regular twirly skirt for day-to-day….
i have three more dolls to make for this mama. maybe you guys can help me with some ideas. we kind of wanted to do the four elements. we have a fairy, and mermaid, a tree spirit and we need something for fire? it would be for a boy. any ideas?

Your dolls are enchanting. Making dolls for the elements is a great idea.
In the 16th century the alchemist Paracelsus named salamanders as the fire elementals. Maybe you could make a lizard like doll or something like Ironman or a super hero for the boy.
I hope you’ll post a picture of it, when you decide. 🙂
Yes, a salamander…

I have a friend who works with the elements. Gnome is for earth, salamander for fire, sylph is for air, and undine is for water.
I don’t work with elementals, but armchair research of nature folks is a hobby of mine. I discovered early on that one can’t do too much research on nature folks without running into the legends of all the elementals and fairies. 😉
thank you guys for all of your inspiration! i went with the salamander! i hand dyed and painted the fabric for the doll and i am so excited! i’ll have pictures soon!
You’re very welcome. I bet your salamander is a cool looking character. I can hardly wait to see a picture of him. 🙂
