a general update on life

little boy blue came to live with us and has so far been pretty much ignored in favor of big baby.  that is ok though, there is plenty of time left for little boy blue to play a role in our playtime!

after a frantic rush of t-shirt orders, things have slowed down, which i don’t think is uncommon for summer.  i should probably pursue the people i know want large orders, while i have time….i am just finishing up another t-shirt i did for a collaboration with my favorite diaper maker.  i did a giveaway on my facebook page when i reached 100 fans.

i am almost finished reading remarkable creatures.  i have to say, i have enjoyed it, even though the conventions of the times in which it is set, bother me even just to read them.

i finished my set of trading cards for the goddess swap.  this one is by far my favorite.  although i like the way they turned out.  it is kind of nerve-wracking to post them on the facebook artist trading card group.  my style is really different from most of the people on there. i feel like the cards i make really stand out like a sore thumb.

most of the other ladies (and there seem to only be women in this particular group) tend to do more collage-type cards. i like that style, but it isn’t mine.  usually i post and receive comments like “wow, very colorful.”  with this batch though, someone gave me a wonderful compliment!  she said ” you should illustrate children’s books!”

otherwise the summer is trucking along.  the squirm is getting very good with his pool floatie.  he is bobbing around like a pro.

the sun has pretty much burned up my garden.  and the poor cardinals, i guess they are hot too, are eating my tomatoes as they ripen, i think to quench their thirst.  i did find a HUGE caterpillar on my tomato plant.  he was probably the size of my finger!  i have never seen anything like it.

I like “Remarkable Creatures” too. I loved it! Why do the conventions of the time bother you? I do agree they were weird, and probably hard to handle, but maybe I am used to them because I have just written a book about this time (it is a biography of Lewis Carroll). And, I recognised some of the people in the book. Although it’s fiction, they were real people.
    That’s a cool teeshirt!

i think i just chafe at all the “oh, one mustn’t speak to men (or their betters) like that.” i know it is a realistic depiction of the times, but the injustice rankles 🙂
