so sometimes i think when aspiring to a new and challenging project, it is better to blab it out to the world. that way you can’t abandon it so easily.
i decided to try to make the squirm a quilt for his upcoming birthday. he currently loves elephants (efies) and i couldn’t find anything that cute out there that didn’t cost a million dollars. so i picked some fabrics and a cool color scheme (black, white and red). it is true that i don’t really know anything about quilting, but i think that if i keep it relatively simple i can get it to work out.
one bummer is that my backing fabric is back-ordered, but hopefully it will come in by the end of the month, or else i will have to go to plan b.
i guess my biggest worry, beyond totally screwing up and wasting all this super cool fabric, is that i won’t be able to get the bulk of the quilt into my rinky dink sewing maching in order to quilt the center sections. if all else fails, i can always quilt those sections by hand.
i was telling my mom about the project over lunch and her confidence in me was inspiring. she suggested i sign and date it, so that when the suirm passes it down to his kids, they will know who made it and when.
so clearly she thinks that not only can i pull this off, but it might be sturdy enough to be passed down!
my box of fabric just came, and good thing i was outside stalking the ups man, because he tried to deliver it to the people across the street! fotunately i was able to rescue it before it got sent back to the store!
so, expect progress reports!

Nice pattern. Looking forward to seeing it finished, it will look great.

thank you for the link, that was super cool to see!!!
I also just bought material – and nearly bought the elephants in pink. 🙂 I’m just learning to sew, so my first project is going to be a baby bib. Now I’m anxiously awaiting my own box of fabric. I can’t wait to see your progress.
keep me posted on yours too! and congrats on the baby!!
Very cool project.
If you’re wee one likes elephants, he might enjoy see this photo on Pseu’s blog:

that was so cute!! i love the elephant collection. i should get ours together and take a picture!
Really looking forward to seeing this in progression and/or done. I do want to learn to sew on a machine (and better by hand) and then quilt. I’ve done a couple of table mats by hand, but got no further.
i might manage to get the fabric out of the box today!
